Alcuin had seemed slightly horrified by what he'd just revealed to a stranger in a bookshop, but when Aziraphale opened his arms and Alcuin fell into them, he knew the young man would immediately feel better. He rubbed his back and said quietly, "It's all right, my dear. None of this is your fault."

"Is it flattery if it's true?" asked Aziraphale with a little smile.

[sauntereddownward]

"Technically, yes. I believe it is," he said, standing still as he enjoyed the way Aziraphale pushed against him.

"Now, Crowley," Aziraphale said, a touch more serious as he continued to stand close to him, "Tell me why you so dislike Alcuin Delaunay. I confess, I'm surprised. Usually you rather like pretty things."

"I like expensive things," Crowley countered. "Tasteful things."

[theangelfell]

"Ouch," said Aziraphale. "It's a bit backwards that you're judgier than I am."

[sauntereddownward]

"You couldn't be hateful if you tried," he scoffed. "I have millenia of experience."

[theangelfell]

That was a fair point. "I just wondered if I... missed something, about him," Aziraphale admitted. "Something you noticed that I didn't."

[sauntereddownward]

"Oh, no, angel. You've noticed plenty," Crowley sneered.

[theangelfell]

Aziraphale blinked at him, utterly confused. "I have?"

[sauntereddownward]

I have? the Demon mouthed to himself snidely. Oh yes, that little tart had made certain the angel had noticed.

"Make some tea or something, won't you?" he grumbled.

So Aziraphale was rather clueless about this sort of thing yes, but he wasn't entirely dense, and finally put the pieces together, including the look on Crowley's face when he'd walked in and Aziraphale had been comforting him.

"My word, you're jealous!" Aziraphale blurted, shocked.

[sauntereddownward]

"Oh, that's...I'm no-...shut up," he spat.

Aziraphale's face softened.

"Darling," he said softly. "You can't think I... like like him?"

[sauntereddownward]

Crowley glowered darkly for a moment, taking a bit of time to have a good, healthy wallow.

"...Maybe," he grumbled.

Aziraphale wasn't sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, it was so wrong and also he didn't want Crowley to feel bad about anything, ever. On the other hand, it was another sign... that he cared.

"He's not my type, Crowley," Aziraphale said softly.

[sauntereddownward]

"He's pretty and he's a sinner. What's not to love?" he said, only mildly soothed. Maybe he was overreacting.

No, certainly not.

Suddenly, Aziraphale laughed brightly. "You think I like him because he's like you."

[sauntereddownward]

"Oh, don't make me vomit. I'm so much better than he is in every way imaginable," he said, genuinely offended.

[theangelfell]

"Of course you are," Aziraphale soothed, and moved closer to him again. "I do like him, Crowley, but I don't want him. I have a very specific type."

[sauntereddownward]

The demon was still smarting and pouted a bit so Aziraphale could see how put out he was.

"What's your specific type?" he asked, not at all sly. He liked to hear nice things about himself.

[theangelfell]

"Well I don't like young men," Aziraphale said quietly, and draped an arm over his shoulder. "Or blondes."

[sauntereddownward]

"Then what do you like?" he asked, easing tighter against Aziraphale as he fished for compliments.

[theangelfell]

"Tall... lanky... older... redheads," Aziraphale offered, and bit his lip.

[sauntereddownward]

"I imagine if that's what you go for..." he sighed heavily. It wasn't particularly flattering, but the way the angel bit his lip with that look in his eye...

That was Nice.

"But really, it's just... you," Aziraphale said softly. "My type is Crowley." And he waved a hand towards the bookshop door, and it locked and the sign turned to "closed."
